Have yourself a hard year

Apr 8, 2025

Have yourself a hard year.

A year where nothing you try succeeds.

Where everything you touch

turns not to gold -

but to dust.

I hope the door stays shut.
I hope your lucky break goes to someone else.
I hope the applause dries up
and all that’s left is silence.

You and your work.
Alone.

I hope you have a year that humbles you.

A year that leaves you with no friends.

A year that breaks your rhythm.

A year that forces you to push in the dark

with no hope you’ll see the light

at the end of the tunnel.

Finally, I hope you have more than one of those years.
Maybe three.
Or five.

Because if you can live through that-

Not escape it,

Not numb it,

but live through it:

You’ll walk out the other side

with something rarer than success.

You’ll have depth.

You’ll be unshakable.

You’ll be forged-

In silence, not the spotlight.

Where no one will see it coming.

So no, I don’t wish you well.

I won’t lie and say you’ll be fine.

I won’t even wish you luck.

Have yourself a hard year.

It might be the making of you.
